It’s just like honey.
Infused honey is ideal for sweet treats that honestly just taste better with honey rather than butter, oil, or tinctures. While most recipes call for adding coconut oil, infusing the weed directly into the honey is better to maintain its sticky integrity and consistency. I made this recipe primarily to whip into homemade mango sorbet, but feel free to get creative and drizzle this infused honey onto ice cream, freshly picked summer berries, roasted nuts, oatmeal, yogurt, or even a peanut butter and honey sandwich that even Pooh Bear would be down for. Isn’t it ‘Hot Bear Summer’ anyway?
Here at Taste Bud, we religiously start with low-dose edible recipes. This recipe batch will render approximately 5mg of THC (or cannabinoid percentage of flower) per teaspoon.
What You Need:
1 cup of honey (raw or basic honey will do)
8 grams of decarboxylated cannabis flower (approximately 20% THC potency)
Parchment paper (wax paper)
Baking sheet
Oven
Mesh strain or cheesecloth
What To Do:
1. Decarboxylation is essential to activating the psychoactive THC or CBD properties in the cannabis plant that makes you feel high. You can do so by following these simple steps:
Grind your cannabis flower into a crumbly but not too fine consistency. Spread your ground cannabis flower evenly on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet. Place the tray on the center rack and bake at 220°F (115°C) for 30-40 minutes or until the color changes from green to lightly golden and fragrant. Be sure not to burn your cannabis material. Yes, your kitchen will smell like an actual edible.
2. In a small saucepan, combine the honey and ground decarboxylated cannabis.
3. Heat the mixture over low heat, stirring frequently, for about 20-30 minutes. Please be careful not to let the mixture bubble or boil.
4. After heating, strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a clean container to remove the plant material. Be patient and gently squeeze through the material to extract as much infused honey as possible.
5. Allow the infused honey to cool before transferring it to a storage container or cute little honey jar. Please immediately label the container clearly with the date and THC content per teaspoon (approximately 5mg per tablespoon in this case) and store it in a cool, dark place, refrigerator, or freezer if saving it for a rainy day.
6. Enjoy!
Dose Calculating:
For this recipe, 1 gram of a cannabis strain with apx 20% THC (twenty percent potency is going to be the average percentage of THC you’ll find in most dispensaries) equals 200mg of THC. This will render a batch of honey that contains roughly 1600mg of THC total (1 cup / 8oz), with about 1 tablespoon resulting in 10mg THC or 5mg for about 1 teaspoon.
NOTE: As long as no water is introduced into the honey, it will never expire, but its potency will decrease over time. The potency of the infused honey may vary depending on factors such as the THC percentage of the cannabis used and the efficiency of the decarboxylation process. Please remember that it’s best to start with a small amount and test the potency (waiting about an hour) before consuming more significant quantities.
